Today I attended the 2009 Indian Village home and garden tour. Indian Village is a historical neighborhood in Detroit that is celebrating 114 years. The community consists of 352 homes plus churches and schools.
The land was owned and passed through several farming families. In 1892 the owner of the land formed a land development company and designed a first class residential community.
Large homes started to go up between 1900 and 1928. The community had and still has a stingent archetectual policy.
The archetecture is eclectic ranging from French country to arts and crafts. You can find many Albert Kahn designed homes in this community.
Many of the original owners were business entrepeners connected with the Auto industry. Many owners of motor companies.
There was never an indian village here. The name was chosen for it's charm.
